Royal-Winged Rays are creatures found in Scylla's Cove. They were part of the opening day release.
Descriptions[]
Egg[]
Moisture glistens off of this incredibly smooth, dark egg.
Hatchling[]
A ray with embroidered fins hatched from the egg, and was insistent to get to the water straight away! It has been calmer since you found a nice pool to put it in.
Mature Hatchling[]
The ray has become so large that you had to move it to a new body of water. It has shed to reveal some beautiful markings along its fins. Curiously, you recognize some of the markings to be magic runes...
Adult[]
Royal-Winged Rays are much sought after for their gorgeous appearance by the royals and collectors of Ostlea, especially the rarer rose variations, caused when the ray is exposed to much more magic than usual while still in the egg. The rays' markings vary upon each individual, though similarities can be found between two rays that hatched in similar environments. This is because the magic in the air in the area they hatched in is imbued into the ray before it hatches, permanently etching the respective runes into the ray's skin. Despite that fact, Royal-Winged Rays rarely use their magic to cast spells except when catching prey. Since all rays hatch in water, one of the runes etched into their skin will always be a Water Rune. Because the rays never use magic for any purpose except to cast illusions for catching food, they are mostly wanted for their looks and not much else. Luckily, these large creatures are content to simply sit in a private pond or garden and be fed where they can be shown off. Royal-Winged Rays in the wild often travel in small pods or alone, and lay their eggs near coral reefs so their young have an immediate food source while still being far out enough from the shore that the tides don't affect them. Once the hatchling outgrows the coral reef, it ventures into deeper waters where there is more food for it.

Trivia[]
According to Amphyrre, the Royal-Winged Rays were originally supposed to be Lace-Winged Rays. However, the lace pattern didn't look right in spriting, so they were re-branded to Royal-Winged Ray instead.
